Richtersveld Orange River Sport and Flyfishing Adventure

5 night / 6 day sport and fly fishing package in the Richtersveld Wilderness chasing trophy large mouth and small mouth yellow fish on the mighty Orange River.

This is the ultimate river fishing destination for anglers who have large mouth yellow fish on their bucket list.The large mouth yellow fish is known as the "River Unicorn" or "Fish of a 1000 casts", however your odds of catching one in this area is increased due to a higher population and less fishing fishing pressure on the water than many other fishing destinations. Abundant fish life offers incredible angling opportunity. Other species include Mozambique kurper, giant cat fish and mud fish. Experienced sport fishing guides from Sundowner Flyfishing Adventures will provide technical assistance fishing assistance (set up of fishing equipment, fly/lure selection and fishing techniques) as well as practical fishing guidance (local knowledge on best places to fish etc).

We will be fishing structure in the pools on the drift or anchored from raft/kayak with streamers as well as wading rapids/riffles (nymphing) and casting from the bank. Fly-fishers should ideally have reasonable experience in casting 7-9 weight rod/fly line combos with heavier flies as well as Czech/French nymphing. We recommend joining one of our 1,5 hr fly fishing clinics in Joburg or a guided day trip to the Vaal River to before you go on the trip to prepare your casting and retrieval techniques for the trip.

We offer combination of comfortable rustic accommodation at The Growcery Camp and camping on the banks of the Orange river. All meals, cutlery, crockery, stretchers, mattresses, cooler boxes, ice, mineral water and two man raft/kayaks provided.

Non fishing guests are welcome to join the trips. Canoeing, Light rapids, Birding, spectacular scenery, nature walks, relaxing, reading a good book and just been in the healthy outdoors with crisp clean air. Not to mention the canvas of stars in the night sky which is clear on most nights with the dessert climate.

The Growcery Camp (Vioolsdrif) is 1245 km (13,5 hrs) from Johannesburg and 697 km (7hrs). Option to travel in one day for the brave souls or stop over en route at Upington or one of the quaint small Northern Cape towns.
